ECO Secretary General attended IsDB and ETDB events

On 20 June 2014 ,  ECO Secretary General Dr. Shamil Aleskerov attended  and addressed  the high level executive business luncheon organized by the ECO Trade and Development Bank (ETDB) at Hilton Bosphorus in Istanbul . Dr. Hossein Ghazavi,  the President of the ETDB, and Mr. Ashraf Mahmood Wathra, the Chairman of the ETDB and the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan also made statements in the Event. Among the attendees of the luncheon, along with the ETDB governors and representatives of the ECO Member States, there  were  the executives of banking sector represented in Istanbul, including EIB. This event  provided  an opportunity for the ETDB and its expanded membership to present to the business sector the opportunities for financing as well as the challenges which have bearing on  the economic development of the ECO region.

On 24-26 June 2014, at the invitation of the President of  the Islamic Development Bank (IDB Group) Dr. Ahmad Mohammed  Ali,  ECO Secretary General Dr. Shamil Aleskerov attended the events held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on the occasion of the 39th Annual Meeting of the IDB Board of Governors and the celebration of the 40-th anniversary of the establishment of Islamic Development Bank. IDB and ECO had a 20 year history of partnership, started in 1993 by signing an MOU between them.

The ECO Secretary General also participated at the 25th Annual Symposium on “Strengthening Regional Economic Cooperation and Integration for Development in IDB Member Countries” where he was among the main panelists along with H.E.  Ali Babacan, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic and Financial Affairs of Republic of  Turkey; H.E.  Dr. El Hadj Abdallah Toikeusse Mabri, Senior Minister for Planning and Development of Côte d'Ivoire; H.E. Mr. Sahil Babayev, Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry of Republic of  Azerbaijan;  and Dr. Abdullah Ibrahim Al Kuwaiz, Former Deputy Finance Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Speaking at the event, ECO Secretary General  addressed the issues of importance for strengthening processes of  regional economic cooperation and integration and the relevant ECO experience and stressed the importance of the effective role of the IDB in supporting these processes.
