ECO Secretary General participated in the 4th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA)
The Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), H.E. Dr. Shamil Aleskerov represented the Organization at the 4th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), held in Shanghai, China on 21 May 2014.
In his statement delivered during the Summit meeting, the ECO Secretary General stressed the importance of security and stability for the development of the Asian region. The Secretary General acknowledged the contribution of the CICA for the promotion of dialogue, cooperation and common prosperity of the countries in Asia and expressed the readiness of the Economic Cooperation Organization to work closely with CICA for promoting cooperation in the areas of mutual interest. The Secretary General also highlighted recent developments in the ECO region, particularly in the areas of trade, transport, food security and drugs control.
The Secretary General also held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Gong Jianwei, Executive Director Designate of the CICA Secretariat to discuss issues of common interest. The Secretary General congratulated the Executive Director Designate and stressed on the need to synergize the efforts of ECO and CICA in the areas of transport, environment and tourism.
The Secretary General also held an informal meeting with H.E. Mr. Çinar Aldemir, the outgoing Executive Director of CICA Secretariat during which the Secretary General lauded his efforts for making CICA an effective forum for promoting dialogue and cooperation in the region.
